With the arrival of Windows 8 and Windows 8.1, Microsoft removed the menu to create an access point in Windows that would allow us to easily share our Internet connection with other devices such as a smartphone, a tablet or a laptop. Although there are several ways to create this access point (some simple and others more complicated) in this tutorial we will show you how to create an access point in seconds with the Virtual Router application.

Virtual Router is an application with freeware license and free of advertising and unwanted software, which we can download for free from the following link . Although this application is designed to work under Windows 7, the developers have adapted it to work without problems in Windows 8, Windows 8.1 and Windows Server so that any user can create a wireless access point easily in their Windows system.

Once the application is downloaded, we execute it and we will see a window similar to the following one.

Windows_8.1_crear_punto_acceso_wifi_virtual_router_pro_foto_1

As we can see the program is divided into 3 sections:

  • SSID: Name that we want to give to our shared network.
  • Password: Password that we want to establish to our network.
  • Shared connection: Adapter from which the Internet connection will be shared to our virtual access point.

Once configured with our parameters will be in a similar way to the following.

Windows_8.1_crear_punto_acceso_wifi_virtual_router_pro_foto_2

The only thing left for us to do is click on the button to start the connection to create the virtual access point and start working. This access point will be fully compatible with other devices such as tablets, smartphones, laptops and even other static computers on the same network that do not have the possibility of easily connecting to the Internet.

To finish we remind you that we must have a wireless network card in our connected computer that will be in charge of providing the Internet connection in the device, otherwise we will simply have a virtual cable network connection.
