Currently WhatsApp is the favorite application of users to send and receive messages instantly. The application reaches more than one million installations only on Android devices. A few hours ago the alarms were jumping because the scam of animated emoticons in WhatsApp was once again extended.

One of the shortcomings of WhatsApp is precisely that it does not have the functionality to show animated emoticons . This fact, coupled with the large number of users of the application, make it the perfect tool to create scam campaigns worldwide.

The scam of animated emoticons is extended in WhatsApp and try to subscribe to a paid SMS service.

The scam has reappeared since we saw it for the first time in 2015, but it has returned completely renewed. On this occasion the text that shows us is in perfect Castilian, without misspellings and with a more convincing message.

This scam works in the following way:

• You get a message through a contact saying that if you share the message with 13 or friends or 3 groups , you can click on the continue button and have animated emoticons. This message comes to you from a contact who has fallen into the trap and is following this first step of sharing with 13 friends.
• Once you share the number of times they request you (this helps them to expand the chain scam, like a virus), you click on "Continue" and the device shows you something similar to a WhatsApp update process in which you request that you enter your telephone number and confirm it .
• Once all the above is done, we will be subscribed to a weekly payment service, which we will see reflected in our invoice at the end of the month .

If you get a message of this type, ignore it and also warns the sender to inform you that it is a scam. People of a certain age without much knowledge in new technologies are the most defenseless against these scams. We must always follow the same advice, "never send our phone number in unknown offers or on the internet."
