The technology of Wi-Fi Direct has many advantages over a connection through the Internet through a router, for example, the speed is higher, there are no intermediate elements that can register our activity (as a router) and we always have control about the information that travels between both devices.
Although most modern operating systems are already prepared to work with Wi-Fi Direct, a client is needed to manage this protocol and establish the connection between both devices. An example of Wi-Fi Direct application for Android that also allows you to communicate with a PC is Superbeam, which we have already talked about in other tutorials.
To be able to use this function in Superbeam we must have the paid version purchased, otherwise, we will not be able to communicate with the PC due to the limitations of the free version.
Download the Superbeam client for PC
The first thing we must do is download the Superbeam client for PC from its main website . This application has an official client for Windows, Linux and Mac, so any user of these operating systems can take advantage of this protocol without problems.
We must also highlight that customers have portable version, so we can take it with us anywhere and we can use it without problems without installing it on the device.
Once we have the client corresponding to our operating system we can start using Superbeam.
How to send files between a computer and a smartphone via Wi-Fi Direct
The first thing to do is to run the application on your smartphone until you see the main window for sending and receiving files.
In the same way we execute the client for our PC that we will see in a similar way to this one.
In both devices we have the possibility to choose if we are going to send a file from them or they will be in charge of receiving one. We will explain both cases as we need to send a file from our smartphone to the computer or from the PC to the mobile.
Send a file from the smartphone to the computer.
First of all we must select on our smartphone that we are going to send a file from it to another device. We will open the file explorer, select the file and finally we can see the QR code. The file will be ready to be sent.
Next we will select the option of "receive" on the PC. A window similar to the following will open.
We must enter the security code that appears on our smartphone and automatically start the transfer of the file from the smartphone to the PC. To avoid having to enter such a long key we can specify one manually in the settings of the application in Android or share via email to copy and paste it directly into our PC.
Once the transfer is finished, we will have the file sent in the selected folder.
Send a file from your computer to your smartphone
This process is just the inverse of the previous one. The first thing we must do is to select that we are going to send a file from the PC to the smartphone. For this we will select the "Send" option in the PC client and we will see a window similar to the following one.
We must drag to this window the files that we want to send from the PC to show the QR code.
When we can see the QR code on our computer, all we have to do is scan it from the smartphone through the "Scan QR code" option that appears in the main Superbeam window and the transfer will automatically begin.
Once the data is finished, we will have the file on our smartphone ready to use it.
