Many times I have seen articles talking about tags or tags in WordPress and recommending their use to improve SEO , but do not inform about how to use these tags correctly. In this article I will try to give some basic lines to follow when using tags.

The first thing to keep in mind when using tags, is to avoid duplicate content on our website, so the tags can both benefit us as we can play tricks and add too much duplicate content and Google penalize

What does Google consider duplicate content?

On the Google Webmasters page, detect duplicate title tags and meta descriptions.
But duplicate content is also considered if the content of two articles is the same even if the title and meta description are changed.

Tips to follow when using labels.

• Add the necessary tags , or add many tags or add few. I personally prefer to keep the number between 1 and 5 labels.
• Use an SEO plugin to add a meta description and a unique title to each tag and avoid duplicate content.
• Use descriptive labels and related to the content of the article.
• Do not use multi-word tags unless necessary . For example, we can have the "Gadgets" tag and the "Android" tag, which would be better than having a single long "What's new in Android Gadgets" tag or having all three, so the latter should be avoided whenever possible. I insist that there may be exceptions where several words are needed for a label to be descriptive, in this case it should not be harmful.
• Try to add text with a description to each label and display it in your template or theme.
