Some time ago, the company Corning has been investigating the use of a sapphire hybrid and Gorilla Glass as material to manufacture the screens , in what they called Project Phire . This project aimed to combine the great resistance to scratches offered by the sapphire with the resistance to falls offered by the Gorilla Glass. The result of this project is the new Gorilla Glass SR + .

The Gorilla Glass SR + screens are presented for wareables and offer greater resistance and optical clarity. Corning goes a step further towards the screens of the future increasing its resistance to impacts by 70% .

Corning presents the new Gorilla Glass SR + for wareables.

As Gorilla Glass SR + provides a better optical clarity, it will allow us to save battery , since we will not have to increase the brightness in case the sun hits directly on the screen.

This new material does not increase the thickness of the screens, which makes it perfect for use in wareables.

The smartphones launched this year 2016 began to incorporate Gorilla Glass 5, but now it is expected that the new wareables that are released this year and part of 2017, include this type of screens . According to Corning, this new material is already fully available for sale.

Two of the candidates with more possibilities to include the Gorilla Glass SR + among its specifications are the new Apple Watch and Samsung Gear S3.

The wareable market was crying out for new material on smartwatches and sports wristbands , as they are very demanding screens in terms of hits and shreds. In addition they must maintain a discreet thickness so that they are not uncomfortable when exercising.

Seeing the prices of smartwatches and sports wristbands on the market, which increase the resistance of their screens is good news, because nobody wants to see a scratched screen with a few days of use after investing a considerable amount of money.
