The MediaTek manufacturer directly competes with Qualcomm in an all-out battle for maintaining the best mobile processors on the market. A few days ago the specifications of the future Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 filtered and it seems that MediaTek did not want to delay further the launch of its two new high-end processors, the Helio X23 and Helio X27 .

MediaTek follows its philosophy of offering ten cores grouped into three clusters , so that the system decides to use a number of clusters based on CPU demands. For example, for a task in a background service, the less powerful cluster would be used and this saves energy.

If we look at the specifications table of these new processors, the first thing that strikes us is that they have improved power, performance and updated certain technologies. When we look at the graphics processor, we see that all the processors have been stuck on an ARM Mali T880 MP4 GPU , something really weird when there are more powerful GPUs in the current market (for example Mali-G71 MP8) .

We continue with the surprises, despite being talking about two high-end processors that should take advantage of the latest technologies, we see that the RAM memory is LPDDR3 when the fourth generation LPDDR4 has been available for quite some time .

Qualcomm is launching all its processors manufactured with 10nm technology, while Mediatek seems to stagnate at 20nm despite being high-end processors. Despite all this, MediaTek says it will produce 25% of the screen's energy consumption and 15% globally . Neither could they miss the promises of a better performance and efficiency in the new processors.

  • Helium X23 specifications:
    2x Cortex-A72 2.3GHz + 4x Cortex-A53 1.85GHz + 4x Cortex-A53 1.4GHz.
  • Helium X27 specifications:
    2x Cortex-A72 2.6GHz + 4x Cortex-A53 2.0GHz + 4x Cortex-A53 1.6GHz.
