Google Play Services is updated like the rest of applications in the Google Android ecosystem, only when doing it in the background we do not usually notice. In its latest update, Play Services 10.2, it introduces a new feature called Instant Tethering .
Behind this new function we find the possibility that our devices always have a connection available to be able to use the network of another device automatically.
With Instant Tethering we can get all our Android devices always have a connection available, something useful in case we run out of coverage in one of them. Obviously, the requirement is that you are close to each other.
The connection between the devices is made automatically without the user intervening. We just have to activate this option from the connection settings. It also warns that some operators can block this functionality (we have no knowledge at the moment that this will happen in Spain).
Although this functionality is already available in the Google Play Services update 10.2.91 , it seems that at the moment it is in testing and only some Nexus and Pixel devices have it available. We also know that at the moment it is only available for the Android 7.1.1 Nougat operating system.
With this functionality we have the doubt of which devices will share the connection, because the answer is very simple, the devices are identified through the Google account. In this way, it is understood that both devices belong to the same owner and can share the connection without problems.
As for the number of devices that can use simultaneously this functionality will be a maximum of two. At the same time, Instant Tethering saves us the task of manually configuring an access point for the second mobile to access.
