To delete many contacts at once, press and hold each contact and press Delete .
A few days ago after deleting a contact from my phonebook on my on Samsung Galaxy J1 Nxt I expected that I would disappear from the list of WhatsApp contacts but it was not like that. The contact was still on the WhatsApp list and there was no way to remove it. After some tests and some investigations, it was understood how the Android phone system works (in my case Android 5.1 with Samsung Galaxy J1 Nxt) to eliminate a contact from the SIM card . The problem was that I had removed the contact from my phonebook but not the SIM card, that's why I kept showing up in WhatsApp contacts.
Nowadays it is safest to use the Gmail account to store our contacts, because even if we lose our mobile device or it is stolen, we can always recover the calendar.
The key to removing the contact in question was to deactivate the "Local Contacts" and the "Google Contacts" and activate the "SIM Card Contacts" . This is achieved by entering the agenda and then in the options we select "Filter"and we will have on screen the options to activate / deactivate the contact sources.
This shows only the contacts stored in the SIM and if we select and delete them, they will be deleted foreverand will not appear in other contact lists like WhatsApp.
