When choosing hard disk in our VPS server it is very important to make the right choice to fit our needs since hard drives of different speeds, sizes and performances are available in the market.

In this article I show the different hard disk options on a VPS server to help you make the right choice, which can save you trouble and money.

On the one hand we have the space we need and on the other hand we can offer different configurations of hard drives with better or worse read and write speeds.

As for the necessary space there is not much to say, depending on your storage needs you will need a VPS with more or less storage capacity.

Types of hard drives on VPS servers and features.

As for the type of hard disk we can offer the following types:

• 7200 rpm SATA drives : they are the ones normally offered as they are the cheapest. They cover basic storage needs with medium speed.
• SAS drives : they are much faster than the previous ones, but the price is higher. Its performance is very good and is usually a good choice for medium intensive use of the hard disk.
• SSD discs : they are the newest and those that offer very fast read and write speeds. Its price is quite high, but they are a good choice for online applications that require intensive use of read and write operations.
• RAID : Finally, several hard drives can be placed forming a RAID, increasing performance against the use of a single disk. This solution is suitable many times because it offers the best value for money.

Keep in mind that many times they offer us 30Gb of space for example and that does not mean that they give us a dedicated 30Gb hard disk, but that it is the physical space of a hard disk shared with other users. Those 30Gb can be from a SATA, SAS or SSD disk and whether or not they are in a RAID.
