image A few months ago Netflix announced the launch of a tool to measure the speed of the Internet connection. In order to give more scope to this tool, Netflix has launched the official app of its FAST service .

The purpose of this service is to offer the user a simple way to check if streaming through Netflix will be fluid. We all know how Internet providers "guarantee" certain upload / download speeds that are not met.

Netflix launches the official Android app of its FAST service.

At its launch, the FAST service suffered some criticism from advanced users, who claimed that the application was too simple and poor in information. This was because FAST did not offer certain connection data such as ping, latency, lost packets, etc. From Netflix they defended themselves by saying that FAST was not intended to be a professional network diagnostic tool, but a simple way to check the speed of our connection.

Although I personally like FAST as a tool to measure the speed of the connection , I do not see anything special that differentiates the Android application from the web version . In fact, the web version is fully compatible with mobile devices since it uses HTML5 technology and not Flash like most similar pages.

The application is free and available on Google Play , although I do not see the meaning of installing this application if we already have the web version fully functional from the browser. Apparently there is a small struggle between companies to offer this type of service. Without going any further, Google has recently incorporated its own tool to measure the speed built into the search engine.

Anyway, many think that it would have been better to integrate FAST into the Netflix application for Android , instead of developing an individual application.
