One of the great innovations that we expected to see in Google Pixel devices were the silent updates, typical of Android 7.0 Nougat. As we have already received news that the updates have been skipped, we tell you how the silent updates of Android Nougat work .

The main novelty of the silent updates is that they are done in the background, without the user having to intervene or perform waits. The only thing the user will have to do is restart the system when the notification that the update has been terminated has failed.

How the silent updates of Android 7 Nougat work.

With the arrival of the November security patch for Android 7.0 Nougat we have been able to verify the operation of the silent updates.

The update process to which we were accustomed up to now, required several steps:

  • Download the update after receiving the notification.
  • Installation process of the update , during which the device could not be used.
  • Once the update was installed, the different applications installed in a process that took more or less time according to the number were checked .

As we can see, the process of updating Android to which we are accustomed, leaves us with the phone idle for an average of 20 minutes . It is also true that with the little that the manufacturers update, it did not end up having a great impact on our daily use.

With the new system of silent updates, the Android device can be used continuously, even while the update is being installed. This is because Pixel devices include a partition intended to perform all update operations and thus avoid interrupting the user.

This is the big problem, that this partition is exclusive of the Google Pixel and therefore, only these devices support the system of silent updates. We can only wait for the rest of manufacturers to start implementing the new options that Android 7 Nougat gives.
