Let's start at the beginning What is Android x86?

In the Android ecosystem a multitude of devices coexist, but the vast majority make use of the ARM architecture for their processors. Sure brands like Qualcomm or Mediatek are familiar, since they are the ones that process the processors of most Android devices.

On the other hand we have the x86 architecture , the most common desktop computers such as PCs or laptops. As you can imagine, the Android operating system launched by Google, supports the ARM architecture completely forgetting the x86 architecture .

It is at this point where the Android x86 team enters, which is responsible for making all the necessary changes in the Android AOSP version to be compatible with x86 architectures.
This allows devices that incorporate Intel x86 chips to run Android as an operating system and enjoy all its applications.

First stable version of Android x86 Marshmallow.

A few months ago they released versions RC1 and RC2, which despite being functional, are not considered stable. With the release of this new stable version we can bring Android to tablets and devices that make use of processors with the x86 architecture.

The new features of Android x86 6.0r1 Marshmallow are:

  • The kernel has been updated to version 4.4.20 and the Android AOSP patches have been included.
  • The Mesa graphic library has been updated to version 12.0.2.
  • Preliminary support for HDMI audio.
  • Support for the F2FS file system.
  • The trackpad icon of a circle has been changed to a normal mouse pointer.
  • Fixed some problems caused by the WiFi driver when suspending the system.
