The Play Store is one of the Google applications that suffer the most changes throughout the year, especially changes in the interface to make it more user-friendly and with a faster and easier navigation. The really weird thing is that Google tries
several changes in the Play Store interface at the same time
.
To summarize, we have seen changes in the appearance of a new section
"Entertainment"
, a
new carousel
of outstanding content, has
removed the search bar
in some sections and has implemented a
new Google Play Store banner
. Some of these changes are visible only if we access Play Store from a tablet.
Google tests several changes in the Play Store interface.
Let's start with the change of the new
"Entertainment" section
. Before we had two categories,
"Applications and Games"
and
"Movies, music, books
.
"
The category "Movies, music, books" has been replaced by a new one called "Entertainment".
The carousel has been renovated and they have located it in a new position.
Before it was placed between the status bar and the search bar. Now it is located between the categories and shows smaller images. In the following image you can see how the interface changes are appreciated from a Google Pixel C tablet.
The previous image also clearly shows that they
have removed the search bar located at the top and instead, have added a magnifying glass icon in the upper right corner
. Before we also had a hamburger menu from which we could select the option of voice search, but this menu has also been removed
(probably due to lack of use)
.
Finally, when we access a link that takes us to the Play Store from another application, a
green banner from the Google Play Store
will be shown at the top. We assume that this change tries to give greater visibility to the brand of the official Android store.
It is still early to say if the changes are final or if it is only tests, but the truth is that the changes can be helpful in certain situations.
