Automatic updates can be a double-edged sword, both can help us protect our device in a more efficient way, as we can cause some type of failure due to incompatibilities. A good example is the failure suffered by many users after updating the Google application and the message "com.android.systemui has been stopped" .

The text of the error message will depend on the device, in other phones we have found "UI system stopped" , but all point to the same. The failure seems to only affect devices with Android 5 Lollipop or lower versions , with Samsung devices being the most affected (perhaps because there are more phones of this brand in the market) .

Updating the Google application may cause an error.

In general, updates to Google applications are usually quite reliable, only in exceptional cases like this we have found errors. In this case, the problem usually appears when we press the "Home" button or when we close an app to go to the desktop and the causer is the Google application.

But there is no need to worry because it has a solution. The steps to follow are:

  • Access the general settings of the device and select the "Applications" section .
  • Within the list of apps look for one that is called "Google Search" , "Google Application" or "Google" .
  • Once the application is selected, press the "Delete data" and "Clear cache" button . You can press it quietly, the application will not be deleted or stop working.

If after following the previous steps the error "com.android.systemui" still appears, you can try to delete the application updates, this should end the failure, although not in the best way . Perhaps it is better option to deactivate the application temporarily until Google launches a new update and re-activate it at that time.
