Every day we see launches of Android phones and tablets with state-of-the-art hardware, where manufacturers aspire to achieve sales based on raw power. On the other side, we have those users who hold on to affordable mobiles with enough resources to offer basic functionality. It is the latter who can benefit from everything offered by Rootless Launcher, a launcher that consumes very few resources .
There are users who like the customization of their terminal and with Rootless Launcher we will get an approach to the design of Google Pixel 2 . The developer of this application is Amir Zaidi, who has recently included a lighter variant of the launcher based on Android Go .
To follow the project and resolve doubts, it is best to follow the developer on Reddit or go to his page on GitHub . New versions are released every so often, so you have to be aware of updates.
Features of Rootless Launcher, the best launcher for cheap Android mobile phones.
For some time now we have been able to download the Google Pixel launcher from the Play Store itself and there are even improved versions of the network. This time we will focus on unveiling all the virtues of Rootless Launcher, which tries to bring the appearance and functionality of Google Pixel to cheaper devices .
It can only be used on phones with Android 5 or higher , so the range of old mobiles with which it is compatible is somewhat restricted. The launcher has a series of known problems, especially those that have appeared with the latest updates of the Google application. Hopefully, little by little they can solve these small mistakes.
Featured functions.
The first thing we notice during the use of this launcher is its lightness and speed . With outstanding performance it is capable of running smoothly on devices with 1GB of RAM or less, especially the variant based on Android Go. The size of the APK is only 1.56MB , very small compared to the more than 8MB that occupy other alternatives such as Nova or Apex.
It is compatible with large screens of tablets , supports the use of visual themes, includes support for notch, access to the news feed, weather widget, support for icon packages, etc. The best part is that it is totally free and open source.
We know that there are other similar options, such as Lawnchair, but they are not optimized to consume the least amount of resources and this is something that makes Rootless Launcher unique.
Where to download Rootless Launcher officially.
I recommend downloading the APK file Rootless Launcher from GitHub, where we will see that there are two versions available:
- On the one hand the AOSP variant , that we could call the standard version that we had been using all of them.
- The variant L3GO , is a version based on Android Go, which allows to save even more resources to those who use it.
The only difference that I have been able to appreciate between the AOSP version and the L3GO, is that the latter only allows the configuration of a grid with four columns of icons. Enough in my opinion, but may not like any.
At the moment it's not available on Google Play, which is inconvenient because we'll have to update manually, but it's worth it. Another interesting download is the Google icon pack that allows us to get even closer to the original Pixel design.
