Browsing the internet from a smartphone is usually a very heavy task especially if we have limited coverage, a GPRS or EDGE connection and access websites with too much publicity. When this happens, loading a web usually takes several minutes and when we get access to the information it is possible that we are no longer interested. We must also take into account the battery consumption that advertising on smartphones supposes.

As in a conventional computer, on an Android smartphone we can also install AdBlock Plus to block advertising, although unlike this computer application that is distributed as a complement to a desktop web browser such as Google Chrome, AdBlock Plus for Android is a complete application that must be installed on the device and that will monitor traffic and filter in the background.

AdBlock Plus is not available in the Google application store so you have to download it manually from your main website.  Once downloaded, we will install it in the system.

When we execute it for the first time we will see a window similar to the following one.

The use of the application is very simple, all we have to do is click on the Filtering switch, which by default is "Off" and set it to "On". Automatically the necessary changes will be made and the service in charge of detecting and blocking all the advertising that appears will be enabled.

This application needs root permission to work, so during bootup we could see a window similar to the following.

If we open the advanced settings window we will see several options that we can configure such as the update periods of the advertising lists and if we want AdBlock Plus to start operating automatically when the system starts up.

Finally, as in the PC version, AdBlock Plus gives us the choice to block all advertising or allow anyone who is not aggressive with the user and does not excessively damage the browsing experience.

With this we will have our AdBlock Plus running on the system. From now on we can surf the internet in a fast, clean and significantly improve the user experience.
