Many of the Android applications have advertising. This publicity allows developers to obtain extra income for their creation and thus be able to distribute it completely free of charge. However, sometimes this advertising can become "abusive" and we may find it necessary to block it in order to use the application without problems.
There are several applications to block advertising, but in this article we are going to explain how to do it with AdAway, a free and open source application that modifies the hosts file by blocking the connections of the applications to the advertising servers by default.
We can download AdAway completely free of charge from the F-Droid app store , an unofficial store where only free and open source applications are published. We must remember that to modify the hosts file of the system we must have root permissions or otherwise this application will not serve us.
Once downloaded and installed the application is executed and we will see a window similar to the following.
The application is automatically responsible for downloading and applying all host filters, for this we must click on the button "Download files and apply ad blocking" and we will see how to start making changes in the system and request access to root permissions of Android.
The list of servers that will be downloaded will be as follows.
The process may take more or less time depending on several factors. When the changes are applied correctly we will see a window similar to the following where it indicates that everything has been done correctly.
The only thing that remains is to restart the device so that the changes are applied correctly.
From now on applications will block the selected advertising.
This application also has a series of advanced tools that allow us, for example, to filter the DNS traffic to locate new advertising sources, create personalized advertising lists and search for applications with adware that can not be blocked by AdAway.
